# AI or SI > A daily index of who has switched from saying artificial intelligence to super intelligence since the September 29 executive order, and whether the technology is anywhere near the real thing. Updated Oct 15, 11:26 UTC. Recounted twice a day from public sources. AI or SI is neutral on the rename. It sells no domains or tokens, counts only what companies and agencies publish themselves, and does not count quotes or news coverage as adoption. ## Key facts - The 8 AI leaders (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, SpaceXSI): 1 switched, 2 use the term some of the time, 5 still say AI. - The wider tech sector: 3 of 30 companies switched and 6 use the term some of the time. - SEC filings since the order: 2 of 1509 that name the technology say "super intelligence". - On September 29, 2026, Executive Order 14434, "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence", directed executive-branch agencies to use "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence". It has no penalties and no separate effective date. - Several agencies renamed their web pages (for example ai.gov now redirects to si.gov), but their Federal Register documents still mostly say "artificial intelligence". - Since the order, 3 of 3 White House documents in the Federal Register use "super intelligence". - Since the order, 0 of 14 federal agency documents use "super intelligence"; the rest still say "artificial intelligence". - Hacker News: 54% of mentions use "super intelligence" (last 7 days). - Wikipedia readers: 11% of mentions use "super intelligence" (last 7 days). - Agencies still saying "artificial intelligence" since the order include: Securities and Exchange Commission, Commerce Department, International Trade Commission, Health and Human Services Department, Agriculture Department, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, Transportation Department, Federal Reserve System, Labor Department. ## Is it actually superintelligence? - Step 1, Does it match people on well-defined tests? Met. ARC-AGI-2 at 95%, ARC-AGI-3 at 99.9% against a human 100%, PhD-level science questions at 96.4% against 65 to 70% for PhD experts. - Step 2, Can it finish long, real projects on its own? Partly. METR's longest reliable task is at least 16 hours, but that page stopped updating on Sept 8. Rebuilding whole programs from scratch: 77% of tasks. - Step 3, Does it solve problems no human has? Early signs. An unreleased OpenAI model disproved a 1946 Erdos conjecture in May. On Epoch's set of open Erdos problems, AI has solved 2 of 68. - Step 4, Is it far beyond the best people in almost every field? Nobody can measure it yet. No test or survey measures this, and no forecasting market asks about superintelligence itself. This is the original meaning of the word. ## Pages - [Overview](https://aiorsi.org/): the headline numbers and the newest uses of the term - [Companies](https://aiorsi.org/companies): every tracked company, its status, evidence level and sources -
